This is the story of Emily and her horse Bear. From age 7 to 13 we follow Emily as she progresses from ponies to her quarter horse Bear. It’s not about champions winning gold (at least not yet) or overcoming great odds: it’s a simple story that happens a million times a year. A young person coming of age and connecting with an animal. In return learning about themselves through their horse. In this segment, Emily’s instructor talks about her training and her natural abilities. I chose this song because it describes how I feel towards him. when he came into my life, I was going through some really tough times. I wasn’t ready for a new challenge, especially not a stubborn yearling. but now I realize that he’s more that JUST a stubborn yearling, because he’s 2 and a half right now and he’s JUST that good! I promised I’d never fall in love with another horse.. but I broke that promise. and I’m definatly glad I did! he’s an angel in disguise, I swear. Dandy, I can see your halo.

Dandy. what can I say? without this horse, I might have quit riding. I started getting bored with Heidi (and Nicole is free-leasing her), and Molly is too out of control to actually ride..
this horse helped me so much. he’s only 2 and a half years old, but he acts like he’s so much older. he has taught me that with time, anything is possible. that I can learn to ride any horse- even a challenge as big as him. he’s taught me to never get up, because amazing things take time to happen. I love this horse more than anything. he’s not just my pony, he’s my best friend. I can’t put it into words how much he means to me. I’d do anything for him. I have a feeling that I’ll go far with this horse. so we’ll keep working, until we’re both ready to take on new challenges. we’ll take evey day- and challenge- as it comes.

Trail Ride 3/21/09

My friends and I went to my riding instructors house for the day to go trail riding. We had a lot of fun! I didn’t bring my camera on the trail ride, because I didn’t want to keep up with it. Dubie was SUCH a good boy! This was his first time to ever be on a trail ride with me. Diego on the other hand, wasn’t the best. He was probably the worst out of all four of the horses! When we would gallop, I’d go like five strides, and then Diego would have to stop and crow hop. When Diego gets excited, he’s a wanna be Arabian stallion, as you can see when he meets Sky and Casper for the first time. I am in the blue shirt, Mackenzie is in the dark blue hoodie, and Courtney is in the yellow rain coat. This was also Dubie’s first time to ever meet Candie, and second time to meet Diego. Jumping 3′9 with my dressage horse! Read Description

I am shocked by the amount of people who have posted comments such as: “Wow! That’s amazing! I did not think a dressage horse could jump. But thats great that you do both, dressage can get soo boring.”

First of all, WHAT DO YOU THINK EVENTING IS? Number two, all Grand Prix jumpers have their horses trained to at LEAST 3rd lvl dressage. Interesting hmm? So of COURSE dressage horses can jump. They have all the basics of slowing down, speeding forward, lengthening stride, shortening stride, balance, and bending. All that’s needed is for the horse to learn to go over a jump. Not hard.

If you ride correct dressage, it becomes anything but boring! And take this from the wild child, anti-dressage, jumping Nazi I was back a couple of years ago. Dressage, I believe, is the hardest equine sport, and while I may get flamed for saying that, it is the truth. It is the foundation for ALL equine sports, (yesh even barrel racing) and without it you CANNOT go far in any other sport. Why is it so hard? Because of the impossible goal you search for, perfection.

Learning how to ride when I was little…

I was an annoying little 7 year old who thought I could do anything.
Back then it was cool to wear your helmet all day, even if you weren’t riding
Riding a bigger horse then everyone else meant you were the ‘best’ rider (even though he’s only 15.1hh, man I must have been tiny! Look at the way I climb into the saddle!).
Cantering was a massive deal…
And I used to brag to my friends about how I can jump really high (lol…. yeah ground poles were massive back then…).

God bless that horse.
I really wasn’t the best rider(been riding for a year)…. he put up with anything and taught me everything.
The song says it all.
I just wish I could be there for him these days :’(
It really breaks my heart when I see how happy he is in these videos.
I’ve tried everything to buy him back!
My poor boy

Beginner Horseback Riding Lesson: Using Poles to Help a Rider Learn How to Post

This is Hannah’s first lesson on Marley. She has had about 5 riding lessons in total. Hannah is 6 years old and riding very well for her age and level of experience. We are working on bringing her lower leg under her so she doesn’t have so much of a “chair seat.” Chair seat means that the rider has her legs out in front of her and is using the stirrups to push herself back in her saddle, up against the cantle. Riders usually assume a chair seat position because they don’t want to commit to being up over the horse’s motion – they are afraid of falling forward over the neck. For posting the trot, the riders legs should be in alignment with her hips, so that if the horse were to disappear out from underneath her, she would land on her feet. The posture is a lot like the athletic stance once assumes for tennis.
