On May 13th a fundraiser was held for the Parelli Foundation at The 17 Ranch in Thamesford, Ontario. The event was attended by more than 150 spectators, their $20 donation at the door and additional donations they made for their free BBQ dinner combined with the raffle prize participation raised $4300.00. The time between 6 and 7:00 pm was the pre-show. The pre-show was an opportunity for the students who were currently enrolled in the ongoing clinic to participate. In groups of three they played in front of the gathering crowd to music (three songs) online playing with what they know. The students, of the 5 day Parelli Experience camp seized the opportunity to be outside their comfort zone and participate in front of the audience. After a brief welcome and introduction, a small explanation of the Parelli Foundation, the audience was next treated to watch 4 of Canada’s Junior Instructors, Randee Halladay, Todd Owens, Maureen Owens and Jan Brooks play in three savvy’s. One of The Parelli experience participants, Laura Albin, is a long time student of Eddo Hoekstra and Mr. Walter Zettl. Laura and Don Halladay rode a very well received Dressage duet. The display of finesse in both English and Western saddles was a huge impact for the crowd. Throughout the evening our master of ceremonies John Baar inspired and entertained the audience with anecdotal stories and educational references. After the 30 minute break the Grand finale took place. Don Halladay wow’d the crowd with his liberty session (riding Smart Kokie Joe and playing with Maverick at Liberty) this was followed up with a demonstration of working cows. Some of the fast manoeuvres made by Don and his cutting horse got some of the loudest cheers of the night.
The crowd cheered the loudest when we announced we had raised $4300 for The Parelli Foundation!
This event was an incredible success for the attendees the participants the organizers and especially the horses.
On behalf of the event organizers; Don & Randee Halladay, Todd & Maureen Owens, and all the many participants and Barb & Dennis Glover ,owners of The 17 Ranch, we thank you for allowing us to contribute our time, energy and influence to making the World a better place for horses and humans!
