[Overcoming All Obstacles] Brandywine Valley Horse Trail Ride with Gam and Bay 8/10/11

August 27th, 2011

“To succeed you must first improve, to improve you must first practice, to practice you must first learn, and to learn you must first fail.”
-Wesley Woo

I can Identify with that quote! This trail ride was an experience! I took the boys out on pretty much Identical rides through the Brandwine Valley. I was hoping for a nice calm and peaceful ride, but Bay had other plans. He decided to argue over a puddle, of all things! I stood my ground, and he decided that I was right after all… I usually am :D Gam was awesome as always, Bay is just a little slower to catch on, but I love him just the same. Thumbs up for rescue horses!

Have you guys ever had to deal with something like this?! How did you overcome your obstacles? Let me know in the comments, I love to hear from you.

Parelli Natural Horsemanship Demonstration – Parelli Foundation Fundraiser

August 19th, 2011

On May 13th a fundraiser was held for the Parelli Foundation at The 17 Ranch in Thamesford, Ontario. The event was attended by more than 150 spectators, their $20 donation at the door and additional donations they made for their free BBQ dinner combined with the raffle prize participation raised $4300.00. The time between 6 and 7:00 pm was the pre-show. The pre-show was an opportunity for the students who were currently enrolled in the ongoing clinic to participate. In groups of three they played in front of the gathering crowd to music (three songs) online playing with what they know. The students, of the 5 day Parelli Experience camp seized the opportunity to be outside their comfort zone and participate in front of the audience. After a brief welcome and introduction, a small explanation of the Parelli Foundation, the audience was next treated to watch 4 of Canada’s Junior Instructors, Randee Halladay, Todd Owens, Maureen Owens and Jan Brooks play in three savvy’s. One of The Parelli experience participants, Laura Albin, is a long time student of Eddo Hoekstra and Mr. Walter Zettl. Laura and Don Halladay rode a very well received Dressage duet. The display of finesse in both English and Western saddles was a huge impact for the crowd. Throughout the evening our master of ceremonies John Baar inspired and entertained the audience with anecdotal stories and educational references. After the 30 minute break the Grand finale took place. Don Halladay wow’d the crowd with his liberty session (riding Smart Kokie Joe and playing with Maverick at Liberty) this was followed up with a demonstration of working cows. Some of the fast manoeuvres made by Don and his cutting horse got some of the loudest cheers of the night.

The crowd cheered the loudest when we announced we had raised $4300 for The Parelli Foundation!

This event was an incredible success for the attendees the participants the organizers and especially the horses.

On behalf of the event organizers; Don & Randee Halladay, Todd & Maureen Owens, and all the many participants and Barb & Dennis Glover ,owners of The 17 Ranch, we thank you for allowing us to contribute our time, energy and influence to making the World a better place for horses and humans!

Hempfling – When the Horse Seeks Us – About KFH and his unique way

July 8th, 2011

Fantastic pictures from a play-dance-working-session in the wild nature at liberty. Very clearly you can see the fantastic effects of the Magic-Lungeing, which Klaus founded in this form and evolved into a true art and unique way. Here one of the most important bases in Klaus’s work. A horse needs a very good preparation to carry a rider. Klaus has raised the Art of Lungeing – learn more about it here and what this means. This clip is also a first entrance into Klaus’ unique way of being with horses in the highest sense of their culture which has made him known worldwide. ‪‪‪‪http://www.hempfling.com‬‬‬‬ This video features the horse therapist Klaus Ferdinand Hempfling’s work. With his professional background in communications he has shaken up the international horse world. He is working with these powerful, dignified creatures in accordance with nature. The development of the rider’s “presence” and an orientation to holistic principles is integral to this work.
Klaus has the ability to “know” a horse within a few seconds and within a few minutes of the first meeting, he establishes a relationship so firmly that anything after that is completely based on trust — creating lifelong friendship with the horses. Klaus Ferdinand Hempfling (latest book The Horse Seeks Me) is touching equestrians worldwide, with response in fields like natural horsemanship, horse whispering, classical and freestyle dressage, equestrian sports, western riding, endurance, eventing and horseback riding in general. He is at the forefront on working and interacting with horses and is known for authentic and effective groundwork according to the horses’ nature, often proved and documented with stallions (breeding stallions). He considers the horse’s psyche (horse psychology) and communicates via body language with these beautiful creatures. His first book, ‘Dancing with Horses’ met with overwhelming success. The main focus of his teaching is the humans’ personal development and he is the founder of horse assisted manager and leadership training, having trained and coached many managers and leaders from companies all over the world. Klaus lived with wild horses in wilderness to observe their animal language and natural horse behaviour. In the beauty of this nature he developed his principals of the ‘first encounter’ of human and horse.
One of his specialities is the work with difficult and aggressive horses. Hempfling transforms dangerous, nervous, traumatized horses into cooperative companions. They recognize him as their leader, and become willing partners in groundwork and under saddle. The KFH riding system ‘Balanced Weight Riding’ starts with thorough groundwork and lungeing at liberty, building up the potential for the exercises of the High School Dressage (Haute Ecole), like shoulder-in, Spanish walk, passage.
One may say that he is meanwhile one of the leading names in the issue animal and especially horse welfare and horse passion and love, as well as horses in wildlife, roots in nature and animal communication. The German TV programme called him one of the most important horse whisperer of the world. Hempfling’s professional background is in the fields communication, art, theatre, music, study of native people and cultures. He lives on a small island in the Danish Archipelago where he conducts exclusive courses for people from all corners of the world.

Anyone any age can ride a horse.AVI

June 20th, 2011

We have had many people through our barn. Some come to learn to ride, others come to reacquaint themselves with riding. Age really doesn’t matter. We have had people through in their 80s and others as young as 3. The most rewarding are the special needs people we have helped. The glow in a child’s eye when they know they are in charge of this large animal is truly special. Seeing others with a new found freedom of mobility and strength really touches the heart, even of us old cowboys. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me anytime. This old cowboy is here to help. My e-mail address is SilenceSpeaksMore@sasktel.net. Thank you kindly
