Parelli Natural Horsemanship Demonstration – Parelli Foundation Fundraiser

August 19th, 2011

On May 13th a fundraiser was held for the Parelli Foundation at The 17 Ranch in Thamesford, Ontario. The event was attended by more than 150 spectators, their $20 donation at the door and additional donations they made for their free BBQ dinner combined with the raffle prize participation raised $4300.00. The time between 6 and 7:00 pm was the pre-show. The pre-show was an opportunity for the students who were currently enrolled in the ongoing clinic to participate. In groups of three they played in front of the gathering crowd to music (three songs) online playing with what they know. The students, of the 5 day Parelli Experience camp seized the opportunity to be outside their comfort zone and participate in front of the audience. After a brief welcome and introduction, a small explanation of the Parelli Foundation, the audience was next treated to watch 4 of Canada’s Junior Instructors, Randee Halladay, Todd Owens, Maureen Owens and Jan Brooks play in three savvy’s. One of The Parelli experience participants, Laura Albin, is a long time student of Eddo Hoekstra and Mr. Walter Zettl. Laura and Don Halladay rode a very well received Dressage duet. The display of finesse in both English and Western saddles was a huge impact for the crowd. Throughout the evening our master of ceremonies John Baar inspired and entertained the audience with anecdotal stories and educational references. After the 30 minute break the Grand finale took place. Don Halladay wow’d the crowd with his liberty session (riding Smart Kokie Joe and playing with Maverick at Liberty) this was followed up with a demonstration of working cows. Some of the fast manoeuvres made by Don and his cutting horse got some of the loudest cheers of the night.

The crowd cheered the loudest when we announced we had raised $4300 for The Parelli Foundation!

This event was an incredible success for the attendees the participants the organizers and especially the horses.

On behalf of the event organizers; Don & Randee Halladay, Todd & Maureen Owens, and all the many participants and Barb & Dennis Glover ,owners of The 17 Ranch, we thank you for allowing us to contribute our time, energy and influence to making the World a better place for horses and humans!

Anyone any age can ride a horse.AVI

June 20th, 2011

We have had many people through our barn. Some come to learn to ride, others come to reacquaint themselves with riding. Age really doesn’t matter. We have had people through in their 80s and others as young as 3. The most rewarding are the special needs people we have helped. The glow in a child’s eye when they know they are in charge of this large animal is truly special. Seeing others with a new found freedom of mobility and strength really touches the heart, even of us old cowboys. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me anytime. This old cowboy is here to help. My e-mail address is SilenceSpeaksMore@sasktel.net. Thank you kindly

Tennessee Walking Horse – Show Saturday – Trail Ride on Sunday!.wmv

March 24th, 2011

OH BOY – HERE He comes! Take a look at Purple Passion! He is a beautiful, full-bodied, 14.3h Black Roan with Chrome and carries himself with an air of pride that makes everyone just stop and stare and say “WOW!!” Passion is a top quality TRAIL horse with a way of going that is PERFECT for the SHOW ring as well! Excellent candidate for American Competitive Trail Challenges, Trail Obstacle Classes or Versatility. He would make an excellent Show/Trail mount for a Youth Rider – easy to ride and will definitely get looked at! It’s always fun to actually win some ribbons when you put in all the effort to show – LOL! If you have known me for long, you know that I do not think there are many horses that can excel at BOTH show and trail – if you want to have a successful show-ring competitor, quite often, that is not the same horse that will be your best trail horse…HOWEVER, Purple Passion is the exception! This guy can put you in the Winner’s Circle at the show on Saturday night and enjoy a leisurely family trail ride on Sunday! Purple Passion would be an awesome Versatility Prospect for you or your Youth rider. He has a long striding, True flat walk and head-shaking running walk and he is super, super SMOOOOTH!! He is natural in his gait, sets his head and says “HEY, HEY ~ LOOK-a-Here!!” Watch him move in his video and look at the overstride in the photos – all this is 100 percent natural, wearing only plain Quarter Horse Keg shoes on front and barefoot behind! WOW! Absolutely ANYONE with basic riding skills can ride him – even a timid beginner. He stands to mount and remains still until you ask him to move and walks along at ease on a loose rein, then moves out readily only when asked to do so! His brakes are well installed and he will immediately stop with simple verbal command. Sired by Pusher’s Purple Rain (by The Pusher) and out of a Pusher x Merry Go Boy mare…Registered TWHBEA #974595. I could just go on and on about this incredible gelding – he is possibly the smoothest horse you may ever ride! But looks and amazing gait are not all – He is solid on the trails, willing to go anywhere – whether it’s just a quiet day out with you or in the midst of 200 horses on a major trail event! He is patient and easy to ride – willing to try new adventures, too! This wonderful trail partner carries himself beautifully, walks along at ease and will move out when asked…and when he moves out – OMG…you will think you are floating on a cloud! He is very level-headed, surefooted and easy to handle. At 13 years young, he has had many miles of trail experience with exposure to all types of terrain. He is also traffic broke and would be great for parades, or for drill team…you will certainly not get lost in the crowd on this horse! As with all of our horses, he has been exposed to all types of terrain, barking dogs and other livestock, bicycles, traffic including motorcycles, lawn mowers, tractors, and heavy equipment. He has been ridden both English and Western. Desensitized to hikers, ATV’s, traffic, bikes, ropes, tarps & kids playing! Loads/Unloads/Re-loads and trailers well on any trailer. Ties, clips, grooms, and bathes, stands for the farrier and vet. Stands still to mount and dismount. He is a fantastic all-around horse sure to be a favorite friend to someone soon! Are YOU Ready to RIDE!! Our horses are backed by a Satisfaction Guarantee. Quality, Value, and Honesty are the foundation of our program and the substance of our reputation. Love, Learn, Live, Leave a Legacy

February 2nd, 2011

Slideshow made for John’s funeral. Song: “Good Horses to Ride” Trent Willmon. Many of these photos in the second half are taken during his remarkable 5.5 year battle with NSCLC. John worked as a rancher and cattlemen throughout the entire time he had cancer. He was an inspiration to all who knew him; family, friends, doctors & nurses. Hopefully his incredibly long run with NSCLC will continue to inspire more research and studies proving that your life can be much longer and richer than a typical prognosis.
