If you’re talking about Ocarina of Time, you have to go to Lon Lon Ranch as a child, walk into the middle of the field and talk to Malon, the little girl there. She will talk about random stuff for a while. When she stops talking, get out your ocarina, and she will comment on it, and tell you to play along while she sings. She will teach you Epona’s Song. All you have to do then is play the song again, and Epona, will no longer run away from you when you approach her. You can ride her around the field for a bit, but you can’t take her away from the Ranch.
Now that you have Epona’s song, go to the Temple of Time and change into Adult Link. Then go back to Lon Lon Ranch, make sure you have at least 70 rupees, preferably more. Talk to the Ingo, guy at the gate to the field. He’ll charge you 20 rupees to ride the horses. Accept his offer, walk into the field, and play Epona’s Song again. She will walk over to you and you can get on and ride her. make sure you try an jump a few fences (if you do them all, you will get your 20 rupees back) after showing off, go back and select the guy to talk to, whilst your still on the horse. He will compliment you on taming Epona, and your riding skills, and will offer you a bet. Accept the bet of 50 rupees, and a race will commence. This race is fairly easy, all you have to do is make sure you don’t miss the fences, and try to stay ahead of Ingo. once you beat him, he will be outraged, and offer you another bet, if you win this time you get to keep the horse. This race is a little harder, but with practice (or luck) you should do it fine. Once you have beaten Ingo in the second race, he is even more outraged. He says that you can keep the horse, but that you will never be allowed to leave the ranch! What an evil man. However, all you have to do is ride to the wall at the back of the ranch, approach it square on with a bit of speed, and Epona will jump right over it, landing in Hyrule Field. That is how you get your horse, who will now come to you whenever you play Epona’s Song. Make sure you save your game here though, so if you lose all your life, you won’t end up doing it over again.
Hope this helps.
