Just a quick tip – …
Just a quick tip – your leg slides back alot and causes you to tip forward on your crotch. To develop a stronger foundation leg, try more no stirrup work or do a lunging lesson without reins. I used to tip alot too but riding in a longer dressage stirrup over time has really helped me to develop a quiet and effective leg as well as a stickier seat. Try to move just your hips and tummy with the motion of your horse so that your top and bottom can stay still and support your horse’s balance.

I’m really proud of …
I’m really proud of you for getting into horseback riding at an older age. So many people think its only younger people that can learn how to compete, but its actually more of an adult sport.

“attaching people” …
“attaching people” = grabbing people (unprovoked) by their upper arm, with his teeth, shaking them like a terrier, and throwing them to the ground. The last straw was when he grabbed his loving owner by the chest (with his teeth), threw her to the ground, and reared over her.
I think, as he was old, that he had a brain tumor or progressive dementia.

Kudos to you! It’s …
Kudos to you! It’s harder as an adult, but I think you also can learn more about how horses think and communicate. Go get ‘em!

Oh, yeah, I’m …
Oh, yeah, I’m acting all tough but I’ve been scared to death a lot. (My trainer once said if you’re not ever scared, you probably are too clueless to be riding.) I’ve had to use Oscar-worthy acting skills to avoid communicating my occasional terror to my horse.

Ok, maby i can help.. Or maby not cuz i’m Icelandic..
Well, always remember the main rules by being with horses -
*Never stand behind him, cuz he might kick u
*Never run to the horses, that may spook ‘em
..
Now with the riding.. I have icelandic lessons so its completely diffrent than in english/western..
But just always remember to keep every single word that your teacher sais on mind, never doubt what the teacher sais unless u know its wrong

That is so cool …
That is so cool that you are learning. I wish my mom was as understanding about my love of horses. Just a little tip, when you are going over the jump give the horse his head. Slid your hands up his neck so he can stretch over the jump, and if he stumbles or messes up don’t pull back on the reins. It helps the horse and will help your position too

Normally I would go …
Normally I would go off on training myself. In this case, he finally grabbed his (gentle, loving) owner with his teeth, threw her on the ground, and reared up over her. This was the third time. And he was 25 years old. I honestly think he must have had a brain tumor.

I think you should …
I think you should also have fun while riding. It isnt about setting a goal saying ‘I’m going to be at a certain level come march’, just do it because it’s fun. And don’t listen to people’s comments unless they are helpful to you. This is a great hobby to pick up and I wish you GL.

you’ll get it!
dont …
you’ll get it!
dont get discouraged.Once you pass all the humble jumble of learning the basics, everything falls into place.before you know it you’ll be doing far more than you ever imagined!

I think most adult …
I think most adult riders encounter major fear hurdles.
1. Don’t psyche yourself out. Don’t think about your fear (as you know, it communicates to the horse). Be an actress of fearlessness.
2. Start slow to regain confidence. People teased me for going on the “kiddie” trail ride. I pointed out that said kiddies always came back intact.
3. Switch to a western saddle for a little while. Or stupidly easy stuff in the round pen. I fall off more than anyone, so dignity is a casualty.
