What to wear horseback riding?
December 14th, 2009
This is my first time horseback riding. I am only going for a birthday party but we are going on a five mile trail ride. I have no idea what to wear. Any ideas? Shirt? Shoes? Pants? I don’t want to go buy something, so no riding boots or anything. Thanks!
You will want to wear jeans, or you’ll end up with a bad case of saddle burn. (Worse than any carpet or mat burn you’ve ever had I promise) I understand that you don’t want to go out and buy anything just for a one time deal, but if you can borrow boots from someone then that would be great! I would strongly suggest not wearing tennisshoes or flip-flops because they can get hung up in the sturrups easily. As for shirts, any t-shirt or shirt that covers you well will work just fine. Hope you enjoy your time riding. Good luck.

Just make sure it is comfortable. You can wear sneakers. Shorts are a bad idea if you go riding! My friend did that once, and rubbed the inside of her calves raw from them being in contact with the straps holding the stirrups (which are what you put your feet in).

Wear jeans and a comfortable t-shirt, clothes you don’t have to fuss with. Jeans are heavier weight cloth that will give you a bit more protection against chafing than something like a light cotton pair of slacks. If you have a durable pair of leather walking shoes with a flat heel, wear those, otherwise wear sneakers. If it’s going to be cooler, take a sweater.

Wear long pants, and if you have them, tight long pants. Sometimes the fabrice twists into wear the stirrups meet the saddle. Hopefully they’re kinda thick too. ( Skinny jeanns? ). Be sure you wear a shirt you don’t really care about, if it an affectionite horse it may try to nuzzle you. A sweet gesture but those horsies a slobbery little guys. As for shoes just wear sneakers. Happy riding! PS- wear your hair in a low pony so its out of your way but you can still wear a helmet. Drink lots of water!

As well as jeans and t-shirt I’d suggest you wear big comfy underwear, I find the more padding the better!

Hey there Caza Terra!
Oh, I envy you!!! You’re going to have so much fun!
Wear loose fitting jeans, so you have wiggle room, and can bend your legs; a comfy T-shirt in any color but white, as horses are dirty, and you will get it on you, =-) a long sleeved flannel shirt that you can put on or take off according to temp, and undergrowth; your comfiest undies, as you don’t want any bunching; thick socks and any closed toed shoe or boot with at least a quarter inch heel, (but no high heels!), a bill cap or other hat to keep the sun off your head, sunglasses; sunscreen, and bug spray!
Have Fun!

If you can barrow someone else’s boots or have some rubber boots then wear leggings. Otherwise wear jeans, a tank top (since its summer you’ll probably get really hot), tennis shoes (but preferably boots with a heel) And don’t forget a helmet!
Best wishes!

Wear jeans and a comfortable shirt appropriate for the weather. Wear boots or a closed shoe to protect your feet. Maybe a hat to protect your face from the sun. Hope you enjoy yourself! A five mile ride will be tough on a first time rider. You are most likely going to get sore so prep yourself for that!
Oh yeah, if you have dainty hands you might want to buy or borrow a pair of riding gloves. They are not expensive and your hands will be protected from the rub of the reins. If you are used to working with your hands then they will be fine without gloves.
Have fun!

Make sure you were jeans. I have found that pants with no pockets on the backside are the best. Any darker colored t-shirt and tennis shoes.Add a hat for good measure. Have fun!!

jeans, sneakers, t-shirt (not white, it’ll get sooooooooo dirty), and bring a sweatshirt if it’ll get chilly.
don’t stress over it, just have fun.

A five mile trail ride can build up a lot of blisters! If you wear jeans, make sure they don’t have an inside seam down the leg, that can rub your leg raw. That’s why Wrangler jeans don’t have one, only outside seam. Make sure the fit is only slightly loose, too loose will bunch up, too tight and you won’t be able to get on/off or breathe.
Most important is a shoe with a heel and closed toe. You want enough heel to keep your foot from going through the stirrup. Tennis shoes are not a good idea.

Jeans are your best bet for pants. And if you have them, wear straight leg jeans- that way the extra fabric won’t rub on your calves as you move (It KILLS). Wear a comfy teeshirt that you won’t mind getting dirty. If you have an old pair of shoes with a bit of a heel, that’s perfect (but a solid heel, not anything like a stiletto xD). That way you won’t have to worry about your foot getting stuck in the stirrup. If you don’t, sneakers will work, but you want to be careful about pushing your foot too far into the stirrup- sneakers are harder to get out of a stuck stirrup.
Other than that- you’ll want a bike helmet and lots of bug spray. Sunglasses are also a good idea. Have fun!

I like my stretchy jeans!!!!! Levi’s suck because they stitch their pants on the inside seems ( how ever you spell it), which can rub the inside of your legs. Sneakers will be fine. If it is going to be warm you can wear a tank top. If you are going through bushes maybe you’ll want a T-shirt. Have fun!!!!

Wear jeans, if you dont have any, long pants, shirt probablly doesnt really matter because you are probablly not going really deep into a forest or anything. Shoes, if you have any kind of boots, that would be great, but if not, sneakers works just fine!
Have fun!!

I would wear jeans, a comfortable t-shirt, and some heeled shoes (not high heels). They can be something like penny loafers or cowboy boots or anything with closed toes and a heel larger than 1 inch.

wear jeans, any shirt you want, and shoes that have a strong, sturdy heel that cover your whole foot. if you don’t have shoes like that, wear tennis shoes
