Here is a video on teaching a horse to lower her head on cue. This is my 5 year old warmblood mare. It’s great for calming, haltering/bridling, and for short people with tall horses!

Jumping a Grid

November 25th, 2010

I DO NOT OWN THIS SONG!!!! okay… now that i did that so that the audio doesn’t get deleted cause that would be extremely depressing…. then we couldn’t hear the song… and more importantly megan cause i love her… lol. So anyway, this was our lesson last thursday (November 11th, 2010) and we did a grid of… 5 fences that was extremely FUUUNNNNN!!!!!!! lol. it looked extremely intimidating looking (especially when Megan kept making the fences bigger… but that made it more fun!! lol). so yea, i think i’m in love with GRIDS!!!!! it was sooo much funn!!! I LOVE MY JUMPING LESSONS!!!!
This week we were all on different horses. as we will be next week. and the week after. and possibly/probably the week after that :D . Megan is switching them up! she says that you learn more that way… when you ride one horse you learn to ride a horse and the fences get bigger. when you ride different horses you learn to ride horseS. Not that there’s anything wrong with riding one horse all the time. Just so that if you have to borrow a horse when your horse gets lame or something or if you do one of those shows, i forget what they’re called, where the first time you ride the horse is when you go into the ring to compete?? then you can do it… and quite honestly? the change is kinda FUUN!!!
so i’m on Ben, shannon is on Madi, hannah is on Dusty… and i officially state that ben is okay now and if i had to ride a different horse… he’s okay! Lol. now that i decided that i’ll probably never ride him again cause i like him!!!
And, in case you’re wondering, we bribed Megan with cookies so she’d tell us who we’re riding next week and… I’m on Oliver…. (groan) Shannon’s on Dusty (lucky!! i LOVE kathy’s pony!) hannah’s on Ben. then the week after that i get dusty (yay!!!! hope i don’t squish him!) shannon gets olli, and hannah’s on madi! yip yip yuraay!! okay… i think i better stop typing now… lol

How can I learn horse riding?

November 21st, 2010

I really love horses and I really wish I could own one..But i do want to learn horse back riding as a hobby..I stay in mumbai, india now and will be moving to Dubai soon… Can anyone tell me where I can learn it..Also..how much does it cost to take such lessons? I’ve heard its normally a sport for the richer guys and im not rich at all…so is there any cheaper way to learn it?I obviously cant buy a horse and learn..It would hav to be at someone else’s stable…Pls let me know if there is an economical place for learning this in Mumbai or Dubai

Since you are in Mumbai, you can move around Juhu beach, where there are horsemen who give their horses for a ride on the beach. Approach any one of them and express your desire. They will lead you to a suitable coach, you could easily teach you horse-riding on a nominal fees, then you approach race-course people and from their you start your new career.

You can approach Tanga-walas (called Victorias) and have their horse for your riding practice. Though their horses are not for riding, surely they will guide you to a proper place.

You can also employ yourself in a horse staple to have free rides and own a horse, ultimately.

Ride like the Wind~ Saving the Wild Horses

November 18th, 2010

I think nature has something say about the directions and took a wrong a turn and ended up in the grand canyon right next to the Brooklyn bridge, !

On a more serious note,

Almost 40 years ago, the federal government passed the Wild Free Roaming Horses and Burros Act, which declared the animals “living symbols of the historic and pioneer spirit of the West.” The legislation provided protection for these American icons to maintain their free-roaming behavior on the public land they called home in 1971 (when the legislation was enacted). The Bureau of Land Management was authorized to manage the herds with their welfare and continued freedom in mind.

The BLM has taken liberties with the “free-roaming” concept, particularly in the last several years. They’ve rounded up thousands of horses in stressful — often deadly — helicopter-driven stampedes and shipped them to holding facilities around the country, with little regard for their family structures or natural habitat. Under these conditions, horses frequently fall ill and die. Some horses are adopted out, but the BLM has removed so many horses from public lands at this point, that they don’t really know what to do with them.
Learn what you can do to help these magnificent creatures visit the following websites and become part of the solution.
