Natural horsemanship hypocracies? Opinions?

May 28th, 2010

I’m just curious to what other people think about the hypocracies of natural horsemanship. I’m not trying to offend anyone but think about this. Natural horsemanship is supposed to be a gentle way of working with horses with no hitting or force. It is also supposed to be about communicating with your horse in his language. It’s about being equals with your horse. But horses aren’t gentle with each other. They bite, they kick, they push each other around. That’s their language. It’s a physical language. They don’t say "oww please don’t bite me". They bite back. And horse definitely are not equals. They live in a pecking order with dominant and submissive horses and the dominant ones push the submissive ones around to keep them in their place. That’s natural. So that makes these natural horsemanship methods hypocritical.

What do you think?

I agree with you. Granted, I have seen some success with the "natural horsemanship", but usually the horses are pushy and hard to deal with. We actually got a horse in that was trained the "natural" way – 5 year old horse didn’t know how to turn! Sure, you could walk/trot/lope, but that didn’t help when you hit the fence at a gallop!

My biggest complaint with the "natural horsemanship" trainers is they aren’t all they make out to be – I was at a clinic one time and saw one of the "trainers" (I will leave the name out for privacy reasons) grab the horses ear and twitch it because he was misbehaving – I’m sorry, doesn’t that go completely against what they preach about? Another trainer beat a horse with a 4 x 4 post because he would lead (first time the horse ever had a halter on – duh) – left a permanent scar in the colt’s eye. So, when no one is looking, are they really following what they teach? Don’t they say that those that can, do and those that can’t, teach?

Asking Alexandria- If You Can’t Ride Two Horses At Once (Guitar Cover) (And Lyrics)

May 23rd, 2010

Asking Alexandria- If You Can’t Ride Two Horses At Once… You Should Get out of the Circus (Guitar Cover) Well this song is very easy to learn, took me 1-2 days to get everything right. Well, i hope you enjoyed, please rate, comment, and subscribe if you like :)

Lyrics:
I can’t see through the tears in my eyes,
I can’t see through the tears in my eyes,
I cant breathe.
I feel I failed,
I was meant to make you smile,
I was meant to make you shine,
to make you shine.

They said this could never happen,
they said we could never be.
Are you telling me you listened?

I was meant to make you smile,
I was meant to make you shine.
I was meant to make you smile,
I was meant to make you shine.

I was meant to make you smile,
I was meant to make you shine.

So there’s no you and me,
and we can’t live this way forever (forever)?
(You said you’d run away)
You said you’d run away, you said you’d run away with me,
you’d run away.

That we’d escape from the ordinary,
that we’d escape from the world that tied us down.
That we’d escape from the ordinary,
that we’d escape from the world that kept us apart.

So now this is over and the world falls upon me,
I never expected to be here alone.
The shadows are forming as we burst into flames.
Why does this end this way?

Brevard – Test Ride

May 23rd, 2010

This video was from June 29, 2007.

At the time, Brevard was 4 years old (April 2003)

Brevard is a Clydesdale/Dutch Warmblood cross gelding. I’m told that he is out of a Dutch mare by the well-known Dutch Warmblood stallion, Patrick) and his sire’s Clyde.

This video was taken the first day I met and rode Brevard… a “test ride” so to speak. I fell in love with him immediately. He has a wonderful personality, brains and lots of character! An absolute sweetheart.

I was fairly new to dressage at this point, having ridden hunter/jumper growing up. I had taken a few years off from riding, as life got busier and school, work, marriage, etc… took priority.
I had recently gotten back into riding seriously, so I obviously had a long road ahead of me to get back into shape as well as learn the discipline of dressage.

Though I appreciate constructive criticizm, please note how long ago this video had been taken, but more importantly, that I have a wonderful trainer whom I’ve worked very closely with from the start. I’m well aware of all that needed to be worked on. You can clearly see our progress in more recent videos. Thank you. :)

I brought him home one week after this.

HORSEBACK RIDING?!?!?

May 12th, 2010

I was wondering if anybody knew of any Horseback Riding barns near or in northeastern Connecticut that offers trail rides?!? I am looking for somewhere fairly good priced and nearby where i can take some of my friends this summer to go Trail Riding (maybe like a rent-a-horse for an hour or a guided trail ride??)

Oh, and there is one barn i have heard of near Auburn that offers pony parties and trail rides and is very good priced, but does anyone know the name of that barn??

Thank you soooo much!!! :)
woooow ok i have already tried google and can’t find anywhere where i live or that offers what im looking for.

when i look up ‘connecitcut trail rides’ it gives me only bike paths.

thnx anyway.. lol

Connecticut isn’t very big.
If you use a magical resource called "Google" (yes, I said it) or "Yahoo" (without the answers) and type in the words "connecticut trail ride." I’m sure you would find real answers there.

How Difficult Is It To Learn To Ride A Horse?

May 9th, 2010

I really badly want to learn to ride it, I have these wierd thoiughts lol of me listening to arabic music on my ipod whilst riding a beautiful brown horse, in a beautiful beige yellowy bright field that is so big you cant see any houses nearby.

as with most things application can make you proficient. you will not learn all you need to make you safe at once. This is a sport in which there are two brains that do not always think as one. Riding whilst listening to music on an ipod which I presume has bits that go in your ears is not clever as you are deprived of one of your necessary senses and are an accident waiting to happen. If you are really determined to learn to ride then please get a teacher who is BHS qualified and carries the necessary insurance,-a friend who ‘has a pony’ may be well-intentioned but again you are an accident waiting to happen. It is a wonderful sport – if you go ahead I hope you enjoy it.
